Default S2 starting and idling problems

Hi, I have an 89 series 2 RS turbo running at about 200BHP and I am having problems with tick over/starting. The car starts when cold first turn of the key, will tick over for about 20 seconds and die. It will start again straight away but you have to keep feathering the throttle until the engine gets worm. Once the engine is worm it will tick over, but if you switch it off it won’t start again until it has cooled a bit. The engine revs good and clean, so I don’t think it’s mechanical. I have checked the ignition timing, fitted new plugs and fuel filter.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

Is this the cheapest place to get a cooling sensor? £61.19 seems a bit steep!

Cheers
Conrad

Is it flooding when it won't start again?

Try holding the metering flap down a couple of mm while someone cranks it, it should start

Might be air leak

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will help yet

I had similar trouble turned out it was the ecu was connecting intermitinly and the accumulator, If you google it you'll get lots of ideas although you'll end up thinking everything's wrong!!

Default problems sorted

Tryed pushing down the metering flap and it made no diffrence. Found a breather pipe loose under the inlet manifold, this cured the tick over problems. There was filter in the vacum pipe for the dump valve, removed it and it now starts when hot. Not sure what this little filter is for? Does anyone know?
