Default relay relay

hello people got a early 91 sapphire 1.8 carb and i took the glove box out and found a little yellow relay on its own behind it the wires are melted where they connect anyone no what its for please need help

I think it's for the management, does the car run?

The book lists that relay to be in that location, IF air conditioning is present.

However, I know conventionally that relay is in the fuse box, still the same relay, along with the fuse, so I would start by looking here, has it been overheating then?

Does the heated rear screen work?

the fan does not work at all the car does not have air con and yes the rea screen works

It will only activate when it gets hot enough for it to do so, typically in traffic etc.

Remove the relay and try to start the car, if it does not start it's for the management, we also have a CVH, which is what yours is and it also has this relay and I put it down to being for that before....

i took it out and car still runs fine also fan does not kick in when cold i traced the wires from the relay and they go to a plug on the alternator and to the front of the engine

Maybe power for the choke unit?

Like I say the fan only activates when required, so it is correct how it is, it will never come on when started from cold.

the fan never kicks in even after a 100 mile journey could be the choke as it does not idel when cold

It shouldn't do, the fan will only activate when it starts to overheat, i.e. in traffic.
