Default brake proportioning valves ( compensating valves )

i am currently in the process of removing my entire ABS system and renewing all hoses. i have a new master cylinder and i was going to buy some wilwood or similar brake bias valves. however seeing that they cost around £40-£60 each i'm going off the idea as they seem so expensive for such a simple device. i am wondering if the standard compensator can be 're-juvenated' . i'm an unsure of what makes it work as i have never actually had a good look at it. i know that the arms push upwards and adjust the amount of braking dependant on weight etc, but are there seals or anything inside that can be replaced or can it just be cleaned out? .

have also wondered about bias valves such as the ones fitted to minis as i heard you can make some easy mods to them to make them adjustable by drilling and fitting a nut which adjust the spring tension?

any help appreciated
