Default Changing offset of wheels (machining)

Hi
I have heard about doing this before but am unsure how much would be safe.

Say I had a set of wheels that were et28 and my car need et35-38. Would it be safe to machine off 5-7mm on each wheel?

Would this weaken the wheels in anyway or not be enough to change anything?

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

regards
Stu

i would say no coz the metal that is under the nuts holding the wheel on is not a huge amount!
you might manage 1 or 2 mm but i wouldnt go any further, most times its just not worth it!

Thanks for the reply, I thought it might be a bit dodgy.

Cheers
