I am new here. I have mark 3 escort 1.6 gl and 58kw~ isnt satisfying, and i dont have enough money/time/knowledge to start big projects like ztech, etc. I allways wanted my escort as xr3 so i thought why not? I was looking for engine swap and found some info that engine swap will have some problems with 5 gear transmission.
Then i started to look for more info about differences of these two engines and found very little info and only differences are carbiurator and transmission. So i thought maybe it is possible to swap xr3 carb to 1.6 cvh? Sorry if this question will sound stupid but i am green ^^.

Maybe there are some folks who did this before or saw both engines and their differences? I was looking for some info about cvh 1.6 engine and 1.6 xr3 differences for some time now. In Autodata all specs are the same compression, ignition, fuel etc The only difference i found in autodata xr3 have from 1.6 is weber carburator and only 4 gears manual transmision. Is it true? Thats the only thing? If yes how hard is it to swap 1.6 simple vv carb to xr3 weber?

 

Only engine difference is the standard 1.6 has a ford vv carb and the xr3 has a webber. Can be changed by straight exchange of inlet manifold with carb already fitted. The box change needs new box. Drive shafts hubs and linkage.

I think the camshaft is different in the xr3 as well

 

the cam is different not enough really to make a difference on a standard engine easy enough to change anyway

 

Oh thank you guys for the info you helped me alot. Now i need to find some spares and change my 1.6 to xr3 ! xD
