Ford Capri, Sierra independent suspension conversion
Right now i know most of you will hate this but at the end of the day i guess we all do what we want to our own cars,
My capri is my pride and joy, its my everyday car and covers on average 20.000 miles a year, so its a big user, Shes in no way standard anymore, running a 2.0 EFI pinto with a Type 9 gearbox, Hopefully soon to be an MT75.
I have done the Sierra rear axle conversion, Photos will be uploaded soon!
But the Diff ratio i believe could be better!
At the end of the day i do 20.000+ miles so more economy is better for me.
Capri rear axle is 3.55 on a 2.0 axle, correct? someone please advise me if im incorrect, Running 185.85.13's i think!?
The new axle( sierra) is 3.73, running the same wheels and tyre sizes,
at 3.55 the prop shaft turns 18.3 times for every turn of the wheel.
at 3.73 the prop shaft turns 24 times, obviously the new axle will decrease my fuel economy.
so is it possible to fit my capri gears into the sierra diff? or just convert the sierra diff to 3.55?
Also i will be changing my wheels to 205,55,15 obviously this will change gear ratio again.
without touching the diff, if i just changed to these tyre sizes, would anyone happen to know what my overall axle ratio would be now?

Capri
Love to see the photos of the rear axle conversation... Do you have a build trend on this?
Some info on Capri axle ratio's
1.6L Capri's ran a 3.77 ratio Axle (Atlas axle)
2.0L Capri's ran a 3.44 ratio axle (Atlas axle)
3.0L/2.8L Capri's ran a 3.09 axle (Atlas axle)
I can almost say for definite that the Capri and Sierra crown wheel and pinions are not inter changeable.
Google Axle ratio calculators and you should get sorted.

Ahh ok so i got the 3.55 wrong straight off
you see i dont want to lose this 3.44 then as that is a big difference in wheel turns,
Im guessing converting the sierra to 3.44 would be pricey? :-( i wanted more comfort in the car you see and the sierra axle gives that
