Default ST170 valve seats

Been looking all over, calling all sorts of people but can't find the answer.

Does anyone know if the valve seats of the ST170 are hardened?

I want to make one run on LPG.

probably not hard enough for LPG, unfortunately zetec valve seats wear pretty badly on gas.

The ST170 engine is not a standard zetec though. It got modified for the ST170 because of those modification the engine might just be able to handle LPG?

Why not try it? Might aswell get some mileage out of it before you get the seats done.

May end up doing that.

The reason i want to convert it is to save money, i want to be somewhat confident i won't get a lot of additional maintenance.
The idea is to have a semi fast responsive car without the fuel costs of a petrol car.

When i started this thread i thought the only possible problems you can have with LPG is the valves and valve seats burning out.
But I've been talking about this idea a lot, also to some car dealers and more possible issues came to light.

Someone told me the pistons might wear lot quicker on gas.
This guy was very ani-lpg, first thing he said when i started about gas is "gas is for cooking". So i'm not sure how serious i should take this.

The pistons in the ST170 are made of aluminium alloy.
The aluminium bit has got me a little worried now. Anyone ever heard of this before?

I just found a thread with someone saying the valve seats have been reinforced for the ST170.

http://www.lpgforum.co.uk/viewtopic....t=st170#p83943

Cylinder head
The compression ratio has been increased from 10.0:1 to 10.2:1. This has been mainly achieved through
the use of a revised cylinder head gasket together with a larger cylinder diameter. The bore has been
increased from 84.4 mm to 84.8 mm.
The knock sensor, the fuel distribution pipe, the mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor), the barometric air
pressure sensor (BAP sensor) and the injectors have all been modified.
The lift of the cams on the intake and exhaust camshaft has been increased. The diameter of the intake
valves has been increased from 33 mm to
33.5 mm, and the valve springs have been uprated (purple). The valve seats have been reinforced
Still like to get more confirmation about this... There must be some place where you can look up the engine parts and see which material was used right?

Why don't you buy a spare st170 head, you can pick them up for around £100 on eBay
