Default Dodgy Lights

I am having a problem with my Dipped Headlights on my 04 Mondeo 1.8 They intermittently refuse to work leaving me only with main beams and sides. This started back in January when I was in Wales. The AA man was baffled and gave up after an 2 hours. He took me to a local garage and the sparks mechanic there said it was a fault with connections in the fuse box behind the glove box. He said that he had done a 'repair job' to get me home (to Ireland) but it was better and cheaper than replacing the whole box. This repair lasted until May when the car was being NCT inspected, it failed. Two days later they started working again and the car passed its retest a week later. They continued to work until yesterday evening, 3 months later and trips to England twice. Just wondering if anybody else out there has experienced this problem and would be interested to hear from them. So would the AA man.
