Default XR2 VS XR3 Distributor (Carb)

Hello all,

I've got the option of either to use in my MK4 Escort but I'm not sure what is the better system to use.

Looking at the XR2 engine, I can see the electrical box mounted to the NSF inner arch - this however, I believe isn't there on the XR3.

Also, the XR2 has a smaller rotor arm compared to the XR3.

My question to you is, what one would be better?

The specs of the engine are; 1600 CVH, Twin 40s, Ashley James Manifold, Kent CVH22 cam & vernier pulley (not sure if that would help)

Thanks in advance!

Neither would have the correct ignition curve for your modifications, however I think the difference you are pointing out is the early vs late cvh distributer and as long as you have all parts from either then just use what you have. Both carb xr3 and xr2 have similar spec so I doubt there would be any difference in the ignition curve. I used to have a mk3 escort and had to have a new distributer fitted by ford and they changed mine to the later design as a matter of course.
