Default Upgraded mastercylinder for rear disc conversion HELP!!!

I have a rear disc conversion on my S1 turbo, problem is the pedal has to much travel, I have been told that if I fit a MK5 escort mastercylinder it will sort the problem, what model do I need it off and will it fit onto the Mk111 servo.

Is this true as I have just had the mastercylinder replace with the standard MK111, so i don't want to waste more cash fitting a MK5 cylinder if it makes no difference.

The servo is fine and no air is in the system and the brakes do work, there is just way to much travel, I figured it was because the master cylinder has to do more work and push more fluid around into the rear calipures hence the travel.

Anyone out there with a rear disc set up that had the same problem and sorted it?

Any help would be top.

Cheers Matt

i had the same problem with my fiesta turbo so i swapped to a mk5 escort servo with the mk5 rs 2000 mastercylinder a bit of a bitch to fit but the brakes are soooo much better... no travel on my pedal at all i know its not an s1 escort but if i got the bits to fit onto a fiesta they should easily fit onto your escort

Nice one turboboss, glad to hear I ain't on my own with this, will speak to my mechanic to price a swap, why did you change the servo, was it just that the master cylinder wouldn't fit onto the fezzy one or because that makes a difference, i only ask because if I don't need to change that then I wont.

Also what litre was the mastercylinder for. 1.6, 1.8, 8valve or 16valve etc, it just so I get one thats upto the job.

Cheers Matt

yup i did the same, changed my mastercylinder to a MK5 Escort one, loads of fiddling to do to make it fit a fiesta, but the braking is superb. I had to change servo as well because the master cylinder doesn't fit a fiesta servo. Im sure it will be easier thought to fit a later setup from an escort to an older escort.

i did this conversion on a friends car a couple of years ago ,all i did to get less travel on the pedal was fit a bigger spacer on the pin that the brake pedal presses onto under the dash,it cost about Ł1.

its not actually the freeplay in the pedal they mean, its the amount of pedal pressure from the amount fluid being pushed down the master Cylinder.

You can use a brake cylinder and servo from a MK5 Escort 1.6 (Zetec) as this has no ABS

Just removed the ABS today off my car. The engine and box are out for a rebuild so i am in the process of making up my new brake lines and fitting them while the engine bay is empty. Fitting rear discs too and didnt know about this problem....

Think ill go and look for a MK 5 master cylinder and servo.

my mk3 has cossie 2wd 4pots and 2wd rear discs with a bias valve for the rear, these work ok with the new standard 4 outlet master on my car, but was real vague before when i had series2 rst fronts and 2wd cossie rears you could push it to the floor!

however if the mk5 servo/master works better then ill have some as well!

Moonie

Let us know what model you take the servo and master cylinder from i.e 1.6 16v or and RS model, and how easy it was to do and what the results are. I can live with mine for a couple more week, then will change over, when my bank fills up again.

Cheers

im in the same boat with my mk4 fiesta, ive got ST170 front and rear but with only braids at the back for the mo! didnt have time to fit the fronts aswell.

but i have noticed the travel is more now even though the braking is alot better. i have had the rear lock up on me a couple of times under really hard draking.

ive been told to look for a larger bore mastercylinder! but its know which one to go for?? no more than 24/25 i was told.

first im going to fit the front braids see if that makes any difference, ive also been suggested fitting a bias valve??

people that have had the racing puma rears fitted which are 250mm havent had any problems, mine are 280mm rears but the actual contact area is the same as the racing pumas its just the centre spaced out more for a bigger diameter!!
