I have a 1996 escort cosworth small turbo
and i have been told that i can't have a chip?
the car has a GGR T25 turbo,GGR stainless exhaust, uprated fuel pump, K&N induction kit, just wondering what do i have do to see around the 320 horse
any advice is much thanked

As said yours is Ford EEC management, this is a limitation in terms of tuning compared to the Weber management of the rest of the family, as obviously is the small turbo.
I don't think it contains an EPROM (Chip) which would explain why you can't do so.
The way the software is usually changed on these ECU's is by plugging in a module into the 'J3' socket.
That, or you would have to "reflash" the internal memory.
I think 320HP is a bit optimistic imo, I think around 300HP is a more genuine figure.

The eprom inside the eec-iv is proprietary to Ford so you cannot get hold of it very easily and it's soldered to the circuit board. Re-flashing is possible but hardly anyone has the kit and knowledge to do it. Luckily it can be easily 'chipped' by means of a J3 chip adapter. Be careful though, some of the chips available are absolute rubbish and you need to find out exactly what they've changed to decide if the vendor's done a reasonable tune.
