Great engine, my advice would be to fit a zetec though. Much much easier, also easier to turbo charge at a later date which is ultimately what you will need for some porker harassment

Don't get me wrong though, I've got a real soft spot for the I4 range, and im not saying it can't be done but it really is uphill compared to a zetec.

This is exactly what i wanted to do with my mk4. I found that a totally custom engine mount was needed or even cut the mounting off the chassis and have a new one fitted. Because i wanted power steering a zetec was really my only option. Also the rs2k lump is very heavy! Ive got a zetec with rs2k management and it did 14.8 quarter at santa pod! Plenty good enough. If you need any info pm me. But the best info is dont do any conversion! I spent thousands on mine and it didnt even sell for Ł2250 on ebay. My cars only done 22k since new aswel! Waste of time and money

Custom mount, cut n shut exhaust. Zetec flywheel, rst clutch, rst alternator bracket slotted to shit, rst crossover pipe to have the icv bolted up underneath.
If you think it'll be a porsche and BMW match your dreaming.....I only used to pull 7.55 0-60. Good torque and pull away on a zetec though, I've had both.
Abroad now and car is for sale....

Best bit of advice, slap a new chain on it and redo the oil pump pressure valve. I rebuilt mine

Strong engines, love the RS turbo cross over pipe lol

I had planns a few years ago to use one of these in a sierra, 2.3 bottom end, scorpio 2.3 head with rs2000 cams, ecu ect. Good for 180bhp probably..... Taken a few I4's apart and they are incredibly beefy, much more so than the zetec.

After speaking to a guy who had some connections to ford, he said the I4 was fords 'inbetween' engine, they were actually developing the zetec at the time of lauch but needed something to replace the aged pinto. As a result the well over engineered it to reduce the testing/development times needed to cost cut etc safely.
