Default oil return too low, viable fix?

im getting a car tomorrow that apparently smokes on boost due to its oil return being too low in the sump, causing the oil to back up the return line and come out the back of the turbo, now i know that the proper fix is to blank off the return and put another in the sump higher up, but, i was just wondering if i could fix the issue by fitting a tank in the return line? such as a breather tank so the turbo returns to the breather tank which then returns to the sump, giving enough additional volume to stop the oil returning back up the pipe?kind of an extra sump.

thoughts?ive not got any problems changing the location if required but its a lot of extra work if the above would work.

thanks
