I realllllly want to pull out my hair with this one now,,,,

Right, i purchased a focus 1.6 99 model, the big end was shot so i thought i would just get a replacement engine and swap it out, exactly the same in every way both FYDA engine codes.

while the engine was out i put a new water pump on it and new cam belt kit (just for peace of mind), my mate done the cam belt but marked the cams up with the head and put a bolt through casing to 'lock the crank' so hope nothing moved, it turned over twice by hand.
there are a few vacuum leaks which i will sort but it started first time so straight away i was chuffed,

So the engine was sat there idling away and reving freely no problems or untoward sounds but when the engine got up to opererating temperature there is a slight Tick/rattle for about a second while revving through the range, it isnt a horrific sound but im slightly unsure as to what it could be,

i have been trying to do a bit of research and am finding multiple posts etc including other sites suggesting that if the timing is out only slightly can cause a rattle but only when hot? has anyone got a guide on checking the timing on a 1.6 zetec?

when the big end was gone on the old engine it was not a pretty noise and happened whether the car was hot or cold if anything it was quieter when warm.

Please help!!! i tried to make a vid but all of the other engine components and belts etc drowned out the noise im describing

 

Update...
Bought a timing locking pin and cam plate, checked everything. Timing was out a tooth so its now running a bit better. Havent taken it for a proper spin yet but hopefully all is sorted!
