Default Mondeo tdci turbo

I've a Mondeo 2.2 tdci TitaniumX, 99k, 2005. My garage, (who I trust) tell me there's a very small "whining" noise when I rev and take my foot off the accelerator. They say the turbo could go anytime.
I'm reluctant to part with the car, having had it from new with no problems, but a trade in of £2200 doesn't seem value, unless I have a major problem.
Any of you have any thoughts? I know it's my call in the end.
Thanks for reading.

Is the whining when you're stationary? If so, the garage are talking bollocks as you can't diagnose a turbo that way.

Yes Dan W. If you rev the engine while stationery, as it returns to idling, there's a very small residual whiny sound, that lessens, and goes away a second or so.
I have to say that I would never have heard it if it hadn't been pointed out to me at the (independent) garage.
As someone who always changed cars every 18-24 months, usually to another Ford, I've kept this one as the only problems I've had have been wheels and tyres, and that's down to the appalling potholes and the low-profile tyres. It's been a brilliant car and I'd recommend the model to anyone considering it.
Many thanks to the prompt responses so far, to my first post.
