Default Buzzing from relay when lights are on

When i turn my lights on the engine cuts out.

Theres a few relays under the dash by the pedals. Theres a blue relay that buzzes when lights are on. So i changed the relay and it still does it. Does it mean its shorting or that the relay holder is faulty

How can i see whats causing the problem?

Cars an xr3i efi

Ive tried another relay but still does it.

Took them both apart and they look really clean and nothing looks out of place.

I think it could be the holder but im not sure.

When relay isnt in theres no noise when ignition is on with the lights on.

When its buzzing i can feel the relay vibrating aswell. How can i check if the relays are faulty?

Thought that the buzzing is caused from a faulty earth.

So i earthed a piece of wire and turned ignition and lights on and put the earthed bit of wire into the earth connection on the blue relay and the buzzing stops which suggests its a poor earth somewhere?

Have redone some of the earths in the bay but still no luck.
Is there anyway i can test the earths to see if there okay and working?

Is there anything else i can try? Really struggling now

You can test the relay with a 9v battery across 2 of the terminals. Or just bridge the relay across the 2 thicker terminals with a paperclip or whatever o just make sure the relay isnt the problem.

I don't think the relay is the problem tbh but i will test both relays just to be sure. Im definatly thinking its a earth problem somwhere!

hi Ive had some experience with this.
its like what was said before a bad earth or the connections to your head lamps on both sides are bad and need cleaning or connections need refreshing if the loom is old the wiring i have found tends to break quite easily the earths at both ends would be best made fresh and keep them separate from other earths connected to the same place make a fresh connection

hope this helps

I noticed that the earths are brittle and do snap reasonably easy as i have had to replace some.

So are you suggesting i just put new connections on all the earths ie the headlights?

Hi, My S1 has a missing BLUE RELAY.
Is this relay for head lamps?
I can not find any information about this relay in GOOGLE.
Please tell me the part number of this BLUE REPLAY.
Best Regards
Tony
