Default Help needed with indicators

For some reason my indicators have just stopped working.

Everything else works even the hazards apart from when there on it dosnt flash on the dials.

I checked the fuses there okay. I replaced the stalk and that still hasnt solved the problem.

Ive been told to change the fuse box next which i will try tomorrow.

What else can i try as you can imagine its difficult driving round with no indicators. Any ideas?

Its a P reg Escort van.

Desperate need of help as i use it for work. Cheers!

This happened on my S2 and all it was was a broken aux wire from the battery, there was 2 brown wires and one had broke.
Might be worth a look.

the stalk with the hazard can fail and the hazard may still work but indicators wont and vice versa

The hazard switch needs to be working for the indicators to work, the former is usually a guilty culprit due to it's typical seldom use!

Also I remember on these Escorts there is a yellow relay which can be problematic (More RST I think) and causes problems, forget exactly what is does now.

Is the flasher unit ok?

Well i got another stalk off a car and still no joy.
If you take the flasher unit out then you don't get hazards either. As i say i get hazards but no lights on the dash when there on.

Wheres the relay switch?

I changed the relays on top of the fusebox (when you unclip the fbox and it drops down) still no joy.

Checked fuses at the battery they seem fine.

I will check the earths next when weather is better but don't think thats the problem!

Wheres the yellow relay your on about?

The hazards and indicator usually have seperate circuits, check you have a live feed with the ignition on at the stalk? Most likely this wire will be black in colour!

I think the flasher unit may be behind the dash if like other models of the Era.

The yellow relay is in the fuse box.

The flasher unit is a black relay thats attached too the stalk. I think this is okay as when unplugged nothing works so suggests that they are on seperate circuits.

Could it be an earth problem..?

When i was driving i put them on and they just stopped working as if the fuse went thats why i don't think its an earth problem!

If anyone has any ideas it would be helpfull as ive alot of work next week and will be tricky too do with no indicators lol

First check you have a live to the switch, if you have then the problem is after this, they are on two different circuits, as the hazards are permantely live!

If the lights work with hazards it shows them and the flasher unit to be good.

on the sierras, this is caused by the reserve light wiring burning out, so while it's an escort, it's still another issue you may be able to look at and eliminate

I'll check to see if the reverse light is okay then. Does it go on the gearbox usually?

I check too see if i have a live to the swich. It would be on the side that the indicators are on as there are 2 multi plugs that plug into the stalk so i'll check them.

Hopfully it is at the switch else it could be anywhere in the loom, fbox which would be a right pain!

on the sierra, the loom that goes from the reverse light switch in the box runs over the otp of the box and into the bulkhead, and this sometimes gets hot and melts, the end reslut is that the indicators blow

simply disconneting the wiring plug from the switch won't do the job tou have to disconnect it after the juntion in the bulkhead

Check the reversing lights, you should find a black wire at the stalk, this is the live (If the same as a Sierra) check the feed with ignition ON of course, as Dojj said the reversing lights share the same feed, that being protected by fuse 20, 15A.

Escort as said is most likely a similar setup.

I have no reversing lights either. The fuses are okay at the fuse box and at the battery. I havnt a meter to check it but can do it sometime this week.

Where do i go from here?

You need to check the terminals for the fuse to see if they have corrosion etc, and if you have power at one of the fuse terminals.

If so then there is a break in the wiring somewhere most likely.
