S1 Hot Starting Problem??
Hi All,
Ive had this problem for over a week now and its proppa doin me nut now
My S1 will turn over and fire fine first thing on a morning or at any time when the engines cold.
If i leave her running and let her warm up and turn it off and then try to re-start it will refuse to start, its not the starter as it turns over fine but will not just start and ive been told to unplug the cold start vale electrical connector and this doesn't make any difference to it.
Anyone any ideas at all ??? ive asked my local garage and hes not sure what it is but says that its gassing up what ever this means??
All help much appreciated,
Best Regards, Adrian

If it's turning over ok then the next thing to check is that you have a spark and that you have fuel pressure.
My S1 had a similar fault that only appeared when it was warm, (but not all the time) and that was the plug on top of the dizzy, new dizzy and the problem was sorted.
Next time it wont restart, try cranking it over a few times and then whip out one of the spark plugs to see if the tip is damp with fuel, if this is ok then pop the plug back into th elead and get somone to spin the key and see if there is a spark, you will need to earth the plug against the engine for this to work.
Make sure you dont hold the plug or lead, as although it is an easier way to tell if it's sparking, I don't think it's great for your health.
As I said earlier though, you may find that the fault is with the dizzy breaking down when warm.
Your in for a fun weekend !!
Good luck

Anyone have any other ideas ??

HI,
AS above if your sure spark is consistent, then move on to fuelling, when the
engine is running have the co% checked as the car starts from cold and warms
to normal temp, to see if the co% is correct and if the ecu and sensors are all working as they should ie coolant temp sensor, thermo time switch, cold start valve
auxiliary air device, fuel pressure regulator, and pressure actuator, and the metering flap is not sticking, also check the fuel pump has 11.5volts
minimum, operating, and check all hoses to the turbo from the air box and from the turbo to engine, could go on compression test etc, hopes this helps.
