heated winscreen not working
hi guys im new to the forum and i was wondering if somome could help me with something.
i have a 1993 ford escort ghia si that comes with a heated front winscreen. trouble is it dont work. i press the button which lights up but i dont hear a click or anything and then not alot happens.
i have had a few escorts with this feature, none of which have ever worked however this one is so old now and the ghia si is very rare and i want everything to work as it should. does any one have any ideas as to what it might be?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

find the wires that go to the screen, there will be 2 either side
start the car up (hot screen won't work unless the engine is running) and turnt eh screen on
using a meter, see if you are getting power to any of the wires
there are only 2 relays, a timer one and a power one plus the feed to the screen to tell it the engine is running
there is also a fuseable link from the battery which may have gone
and thats it

What he ^^ said, first check you have power at the wires each side (Incidentally there are two heating elements in the screen) if you do then the screen itself is faulty, which unfortunatly are quite expensive!
If not the relay may be faulty, clearly the fault is after the switch due to the fact the light illuminates so you have power there!
They do sap alot of power and so you should be able to hear and feel it power up by a change in the engine note when idle, due to the electrical demand that has been applied!
