Default Escort 55 van laden valve/brake question

Took the Escort van in for an MOT and the guy said my light laden valve (break compensator) is stuck, so I said go ahead and free it. 1 month later going down the road and put foot on break - foot goes to the floor. So I have bought and fitted a new valve, set it as per Haynes, bled the brakes to no air bubbles, but when I break foot goes half way to floor before braking begins. Cant seem to improve it and they used to be solid. I have new discs and pads on front so thats not an issue and the rears seem ok so my question is do I need to do further bleeding or is this normal (now the valve is working)? or is it because I have no weight in the back?
