Default zetec conversion temp gauge

Hi all

Just finishing off my conversion and was wondering how you get the temp gauge to work, ive put a 2 litre zetec in my mk4 xr3i. Also my rev counter isn't working, im using an esc pack as its on twin weber 40's. Any info would be helpful.

cheers

The temp sender MUST be the one that was used originally, as it is likely to be a different resistance and so give false reading, so use the xr3i one, even if you need to make a adaptor to join the original temp sender to the new engine stat housing, unless by sheer good luck the new engine's one is the same resistance ?
I'm assuming you're using the std coilpack on the zetec ?, in which case see if there was a mk4 with a coilpack and use the tacho out of that is easiest way, my memory seems to tell me there was such a car/engine ?

Thanks I will try and find the correct tacho, im sure ive heard somewhere you can connect the esc pack up to the loom and it will work.
For the temp gauge i have used the temp sender from the xr3i and connectd it up to the loom but is still not giving a reading, maybe i should use the zetec one and somehow connect it up

Does your zetec have a plastic stat housing, is that where the temp sender for the gauge is ?, it won't work without the sensor body itself being earthed, assuming your xr3i sender is a single wire ?
