Hi, Im changing engine in ford focus 2001 enduro DI diesiel engine, Ive been told bysome people that fuel pump needs to be programmed in 2nd hand engine and been told by other prople that pump does not need to be programmed , that it will start no problem , Can any one confirm which is right

It wouldn't surprise me that it would need to be programmed these days, saying that, it's driven off a belt so it's pumping diesel whether it wants to or not. Don't quote me on that though.
