Thinking of getting the cossie under sealed is there any company's that do it if so what sort of price will I be looking at or should I do it myself if so why stuff do I want to go for baring in mind I use this car rain shine or snow so guessing I won't want wax oil as its always wet/soft

 

You can buy undersea with wax oil in it I bought it from halfords and jacked car up put it on axle stands put some overalls on and got medieval with a paint brush its a messy job but really makes a difference I then took the bumpers off and got a cheap garden fence sprayer and mixed a 5 gallon tin of waxoil with parafin and sprayed it down the chassis legs and the sills hope this helps

 

wax oil is for protecting your car against rust dirt and moisture
underseal is for bladdering over quick mot style welding repairs and is in general shit as it tends to trap moisture
all in my opinion of course

 

Works on my 20 yr old saff which had never seen a welder

 

what i tend to find is tho when you come to take it off for say an underside resto you tend to find nothing but rusty steel that the underseal has been holding together!

i find the best combo is stonechip then basecoat and 2k laquer gives that concourse look too lol
failing that just sme waxoil as the fact it stays soft is what protects you from styonechips plus it actually converts mild rust back to a stable form of steel

 

So people think wax oil is the way forward would you jet wash the underside of the car 1st then leave it a day or so to dry and do you just slap it over the old stone chip or try scraping it all of also what don't you put it on/over ie fuel lines wish bones tank etc

 

Would love to paint it but I don't have the space garage etc to take all parts of to do it :-(

 

Just done my series 2 its a messy job to do yourself but worth it , i hammerite with underseal wheelarches floor sills ect ect then used the pump up tin for the chassis in all the nooks nd crannys then the aerosol for behind door cards, boot n bonnet ect ect

 

Would hammerite paint be good enough on it's own as this dries hard or is this not enough

 

i would get the car properly pressure washed/steam cleaned underneath with an industrial washer not a car wash type and then go from there so long as the car is sound underneath i would re stonegaurd any places where it has been removed/loosened then just apply the waxoil, as mentioned above do the floor, chassis legs, inside doors and rear quarters etc its well worth it mate

 

In either last months or the months before issue of PPC, Practical Performance Car they did a feature on a company specialising in this very thing, well worth getting a copy.
