Default OFAB QUERY,do i need a vehicle speed sensor?

i had the exact ofab setup on my series 2 which was on when i bought it and it never ran a vehicle speed sensor and seemed to run fine,

now ive fitted it all to my series one and ive found the spare plug and thought if im building it im going to do it right but cant find anything on the net to tell me otherwise,

I would fit it , for the cost of getting one from a scrappies then go for it , I always say that if Ford could of got away without running one they would of done , so must be some reason why they fitted it

From Fords wiring diagram book .....

" The VSS sends a square wave signal , who's frequency is proportional to the vehicle road speed to pin 4 of the EEC module "
