Default zetec conversion

Hi all

I've just got my hands on a 2 litre zetec lump from a 94 mondeo, the plan is to stick it into my mk4 xr3i mfi which after loads of messing about has just been mot'ed. Im sorted for mechanical parts but am stuggling on engine management. Is it best to source a zetec engine loom and connect it to my current car loom or is it better to go down the route of a stand alone management system, if so what is the best type?

Any help would be spot on as its startin to make my head spin
cheers stu

depends on budget and what power etc your after really

just to get it running the a zetec loom into the mk4 loom is good enough

to get more power and smoother running a after market management would be better

then do you have a good budget or a basic budget

if on a basic budget and can work your way around the internet for info then megasquirt is a good base to start

working onto a better management system as a when money allows

well im working on quite a tight budget to be honest, im was considering a zetec loom but was concerned about getting a compatible loom and immobilisers, ive heard a fiesta 1.6 si loom will work. In terms of megasquirt does it control the ignition as well as the fueling? im not really very clued up on stand alone management

a mk1 mondeo loom and ecu would be perfect - no immobiliser to worry about, plus only about 6 connections to wire it into the car

for cheap+easy, just go standard management and injection for starters. you get RS turbo power with awesome reliability and it'll do more MPG too

well

megasquirt controls both fuel and ignition

like said a mk1 mondeo loom is find and only 6 wires or so to wire in

again you'll get more bhp from throttle bodies (carbs) but will require a lot of setting up so probably best to stick to efi tbh

ye i think i will get it up and running on the standard loom and thanks for the link the loom and ecu has been added to my watch list, does it matter that its a 1.8 ecu, i was thinking the calibration may not be suitable for the 2.0 litre engine. Maybe in the future i can look at throttle bodies but for now ive got plenty to keep me busy such as rear disks and rear anti roll bar setup.
