Default Sierra Cosworth 2wd thermostat - HELP!

Just sorting out the cooling system on my 3 door. The thermostat was missing so got a new one plus the rubber ring and gasket. Im guessing that as the stat is loose in the housing that there should be a circlip or something to retain it? -

As said, stat kits should have the clip in, been used since 1971!!, and also there should be a seal that goes in the housing first, then stat then clip that engages in the groove.
If you get stuck for one, drop me a pm, as I have some spare, can soon bung one in the post FOC for you.

Yea, as said, its a spring ring retainer, although i dare say a correct sized internal circlip would work fine.

You could probably fashion one out of brazing wire to get you out of a fix if needed in a hurry.

Many thanks for the offer. Managed to get one from my local Ford dealer, not in stock but they got it the same day! Its part no.0242120 and was about 2 quid. Pretty good service for a 25 year old car, though I guess it must fit some later stuff as well.
