Default St170 brake conversion (Help!)

Rite i was racing a rs2000 escort down a carriageway and i was doing some stupid speed.

When i hit the brakes it stated moving to the left and then it would pull back to the rite but i was not skidding.

I herd a bang from the drivers wheel and lots of smoke came from that side then the left side went the same.

I totally lost control at this point but i never crashed.

I moved the car to a safe place on the carriageway got out and the disks was glowing a solid red and brake pads had gone and the calipers was hanging.

My mates said when i brought the car there not st front brakes there standard 1.6 Uprate them.

Of course i never listened i drove the car and this happened. So what do i need to uprate the front brakes. And is it a straight forward job

Cheers

sounds to me like whoever last worked on the brakes did not do a very good job. are all the bolts still there? have any broken or fallen out?

to do the st170 conversion you will need st170 hubs/knuckles, st170 discs and either st170 callipers and pads OR any mondeo mk3 callipers and pads.

easy bolt off, bolt on job for anyone competant with a spanner.

No mate the bolts and pads have gone. The 1 disk is warped and its got a bigish hole in the disk All i have left is 1 hanging caliper other 1 has gone.

So no brakes on the front at all sounds easy enough what price do you think im looking at sure ive read some were its cheaper to do the rs conversion.

fuck me, one calliper has fallen off and the other is barely hanging on!! your lucky to be alive and whoever worked on the brakes last (i'm guessing previous owner) should be shot!

i got my callipers and hubs for Ł100 off ebay which was cheap at the time. don't know what they go for now but i wouldnt expect to pay more than Ł200 for used items. i'd be fitting new discs and pads at the same time. mine came with dics and pads that were advertised as worn but fine...they were fucked imho. also, sounds like one of your flexi hoses has ripped off (with one calliper doing a dissapearing act) and the other one will have been stressed so get a set of braided flexi hoses front and rear for it too. they will be upt Ł65 ish for a set. cheaper if you have rear drums.

The back brakes are st170 think they work fine all tho first m.o.t it went for it said they were recording little or no effect but i got that fixed. I 4rt the car was going to go over on the roof. Ive never been so shaken up i lived to tell the tail this time. I thought i was never going to see 2011 how fast i went side ways bobbling ready to go over on that carriageway. Its the drivers caliper that's gone both pads of each side have gone 1 disk is warped badly other worn down that much theirs a hole in it Other caliper is left hanging.

question the first, what car is it, year, model, etc

question the second, how big is the disc you currently have?

question the third, what size holes do you have in your hubs? (if the answer to question one is anything other than a mk1 focus)

also, there is a reason they use the correct bolts in brake kits and they put a blob of thread lock on them to keep them tight

focus mk 1 2001 1.6 (but its got the st170 engine in it)

Disks i guess now are standard 1.6 (and was not uprated like other owner said)

do your hubs look like this??

http://shop.mondeospares.co.uk/ekmps...2005-214-p.jpg

if so, then they are standard fit on mk1 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2l.

also if the discs were that badly worn they were down to the fins when were they last checked? when was the last mot? i'd be very worried about the condition the rest of the car is in.

I had new disks about a month back and pads. Not sure what the hubs are like but they are standard 1.6 that are on it.

Please gets some pictures of the damage!! lucky to be alive, brakes should have been the first thing to be upgraded so a bit silly not doing this. Even the ST170 brakes are not much good at stopping from high speed, i managed to warp my disks after braking from high speed, i hate the wobble it gives

ok cool.

i've just seen the odd negative comment about their stuff from time to time is all but i guess i may have missed the possitives.

will certainly be looking into them more when i turn my focus into a track car (eventually) as will be going forced induction so will be needing better than my curent st170 setup.
