Default Cosworth YB "Octane Adjuster"

Help needed again if you can ?

Octane Adjuster........been told my Cosworth might need to run one of these but haven't a clue what one is or what it does.

Does this Interface with the Lamba Sensor on the Exhaust or if that just a Closed Loom thingy

As you can tell......I'm now out of my depth so any help & advise would be fantastic.

You can retard the timing by earthing some wires which are near the ECU, this is typically done sometimes when running a leaded fuelled car on unleaded, it's not something to be messed with unless you know exactly what you are doing and he the means of verifying the adjustment is correct, I think this is what you may mean.

OK Marty, thought this might be something buried in the ECU or something I needed to have installed by a Specialist ?

I'm still unsure.........but thanks anyway.

Basically the ignition timing is stored in a MAP, but you can "trim" the ignition timing slightly using the wires by the ECU, using different fuels is one example as different fuels burn at different rates so the timing may need slight adjustment.
