New owner of 1988 XR3i, mangaed to get my car running having replaced just about everything! However I have noticed a drive belt hanging from the driveshaft, there is some sort of unit above it which looks like it could be a power steering unit? Did they fit them to 1988 models?

 

possilby abs belt mate have you got 2 pumps above the drive shafts

 

Thanks, for this I will check; i didnt think that a 1988 would have ABS? I bet you cant just remove the belts and do away with it?

You can remove the belts and it will deactivate the abs, alot of people don't like the system but ive got it on my Mk2 orion and its never caused me any probs. The trouble is if a belt is removed or snaps etc it throws up the abs warning light on the dash, you'd either have to take the bulb out or cable tie up the sprung loaded sensors that sense if the belts are on or not!

Chances are if a belt is hanging down off the shaft the light will be on, and if its not some1 has removed the bulb before!
