My girlfriend has recently purchased a 1998 mk 6 escort ghia cab. it has a 1.8 zetec engine which seems ok but when you really put your foot to the floor it doesnt seem to pull all that much but when you let off the gas everso slightly it revs faster. kinda feels like a diesel when it gets to the limit but this is mostly around the 4k revs mark! i intend to sort her out with some redex and try give injectors and that a bit of a flush but can anyone shed any light onto this please??

i've heard if it struggles to rev past 4k the cat is blocked. most probably because its broken up. could be a number of other things though like maf but seen as you said it ges better when you let off slightly it could be the throttle possition sensor.

Its the small vacuum pipe split at the the rear of the inlet manifold..

thats worth a check too, they're known for collapsing!
