since buying my 93 orion runabout the brake pedal has to be pushed halfway down before it actually applies the brakes, there is nothing wrong with the pads/disks so I can only think it is the master cylinder at fault, is there any way I can prove this or has anyone come accross this problem before?

i take it you've tried bleedin the brakes???
pop the vacuum pipe off the servo and look inside the servo,
is there any brake fluid inside??

 

I had a master cylinder go on a previous car and over the course of a week the pedal went from normal, to lower and lower until it hit the floor.

Steve, i had a astra and this sounds similar.

I changed the fluid in the car,must have been really old and the brake pedal felt spot on then.

Could be that.
