my dads focus has developed a problem with the coolent temp n fuel gauge not working properly. When you turn the ignition off the gauges drop down then pop back up. The fuel gauge always reads half full. A lad i work with said it will need a new set of clocks cause its a common fault with them. Is this true.
yep thats right. my mums developed exact same fault so asked the guys at my local fords (luckily they're not bad) and they said its a common fault need newuns BUT if the car was built between a certain sait of build numbers ford will replace with a reconditioned unit for just Ł50!
its worth taking the chassis number to ford and asking them mate.
my mums was a 52 plate but i cant tell you if her's qualified for this ceap rate or not as my brother wrote the car off before we had it fixed.

50 quid thats cheap. The lad at work used to work for ford and he said ford charged about 100 quid for it. He said that it was on watchdog about them lol.
It's Ł99 fitted because of the watchdog program about them. Theyy're very easy to replace and dont need programming, yo will lose your mileage though.
Do a guage sweep test (Ignition off, press in the mileage reset button, ignition on pos 2, release button when "TEST" is displayed, press button once more) and see if the guages are working correctly.
But yeah, very common fault!
