Default mondeo st200 help please?

Hi all ive had a few minor idle isues with the mondeo since i got her, i cleaned out the original idle valve but since found out it was leaking air so i replaced it with a genuine ford one. Now the when i dip the clutch the revs rise to around 3k and the slowly come back down where it will eventualy settle around 700. There were a few other thing that were done at the same time which was the moose pipe had a hole drilled in the end for some unknown reason so i sealed that and they had also put a piece of copper pipe in the same hose with a reducer in it which i also removed. Engine is near standard apart from an exhaust system, magnecore leads and a piper x viper induction kit so anyone got any ideas? Thanks for your help guys.

throttle hang, thats why there was a reducer in your moose pipe. throttle hang is VERY common on the 2.5 V6 duratec

the inlet manifold runner control (imrc) has nothing to do with the idle does it? it just controls the secondries right? its just ive seen that a few people have moved theres to under the battery tray and wondered why?

no, the imrc just controls the secondaries, the only thing that will do if broke, is not open the secondaries, which results in no pick up in power at 3k+ revs. i have replaced, and moved my imrc, its now on the battery tray. the reason for moving them, is ford genuis idea of placing it on top of a red hot rocker cover, isnt the greatest idea. on the battery tray, there is no chance of it over heating.

if your revs are not jumping up to 3k now you have put the reducer back in, the throttle hang is cured, as for it ticking over at 700 revs, i would worry, mine does.

prevention, is better than cure mate, as they say, especially when the cure, is well over Ł200 from ford for the part alone, so yes mate, move it to the battery tray

As Fiddy says the copper cap was there to assist with a very common problem which is called throttle hang. The other thing that can cause these symptoms are the Idle Control Valve which sticks due to becoming clogged up. but you say that youve cleaned this

How long is it since the Viper was cleaned out?

Jeff

i had the viper of the other day and it doesnt look too bad and i cleaned out a couple of loose bits, the iacv is brand new from ford. Today its been playing around again when your driving its fine and there is very minimal throtle hang but when you put the clutch down the revs drops down to around 1k then will bounce down between 250 and 500 and nearly stall then correct its self and bounce back up to around the 650-700 mark and sit there all day untill you drive and dip the clutch again. This is sending me mad now, this wouldnt be the new iacv playing up already? Thanks for everyone help on this but im getting very old very quick lol.

what did you clean your ISCV out with mate ? brake fluid is best, and leave it to soak for a few minutes aswel. i cleaned mine out not long ago, becasue when i was breaking, and going down the gears for junctions, roundabouts etc, it started cutting out, and its not very good crusiing upto junctions and roundabouts, with PAS or brakes lol. it hasnt really made my idle any higher, but it doesnt cut out anymore. i used brake fluid to clean mine, cleaned it up a treat

Clean the throttle body with brake cleaner, its not fully closing due to carbon build up.

It does sound like the idle control valve could still be playing up.

Unless, there is a split pipe somewhere that could be causing issues. I wish you were closer as I would have taken a look for you. I am in Kidderminster the week after next so if it is still playing up then we can arrange to meet somewhere.

Thanks mate the drive i did this morning seemed better and it didnt do the funny idle going down to 250 ish. Got a bit of driving to do latter so ill see how it goes then. Another man of here has also said i can swap a few of his bits over to mine to try and eliminate the problem. Ill keep thread up to date.
