Default 2001 mondeo electrical gremlins help please

hi i have been working on a neighbours mk3 mondeo 1.8 petrol first eml on which when i read fault codes came up with egr fault cleaned and refitted eml has not come back on as of yet then while sitting in car clocks went crazy rev counter dropped speedo went up max and all digital displays on speedo went to dashes engine started missing and sounding like backfiring through air intake all warning lights battery oil eml on frost warnings ect then when foot put on clutch pedal everything back to normal can anyone tell me what the switch on clutch pedal is for car has no cruise control fitted new battery symptoms all went for 3 days my neighbour came round last night and said while driving downhill car started shaking spluttering cutting out but still no eml ive read through hundreds of posts fault with dash crank sensor fault battery fault coilpack fault plugged in obd reader still no codes i checked all earth connections as symptoms suggest bad/weak earth but i just dont know what to do/check first ANY HELP PLEASE thanks in advance

Usually the gauge sweep is down to the battery, as the power is dropping, the dash does not get the power it needs and so does a gauge sweep and goes back to normal again, this is usually shown on start up though.

The clutch pedal switch IIRC is used as an input to inform when the clutch is down to shut off fuel when coasting up to lights etc and so better economy.

It may possibly be a faulty ECU?
