Recon power steering leak, Does pic look right?
My apologies in advance for asking yet another question, it's all I seem to do on here
As usual when doing one job you find something else that is wrong, whilst fitting some new engine mounts I noticed the power steering boot was leaking a small amount of fluid, the rack is a re-con unit which I fitted just over a year ago now and it has done less than 2000 miles since, for a while now it just hasn't felt right it was OK at faster speeds but at lower speeds you have to correct the steering yourself back into position' (if that makes sense) I thought it might be the strut top bearings but there not that old.
So today I thought I would remove the boot to see how much fluid was in there and there was only a tiny amount so it can't of been leaking that long and there is no visual loss showing in the reservoir, I have also been moving the car about a fair bit would this cause it to leak because you are forcing the steering without the pump running,
I have taken a couple of pic's to get your opinions, I have never looked behind the steering rack boot before, but have compared the photo to the cosworth manual and it looks to me as if the rack support bush should be in more could this be the reason for the leak, the workshop manual diagram also shows a support bush securing wire, should that be on the end of the support bush in the groove in the photo,

I would ask a power steering rack reconditioner like silvers of wymondham norfolk, never taken a 4be one apart, but defo doesn't look right, I think like you it shouldn't be poking out like that ?, maybe take other boot off and see what that is like ?
tabetha
tabetha
Looking at the diagram in the manual it looks like the drivers side is different tabetha, it looks like the inner shaft slides in from the drivers side and then the part that is sticking out in the photo screws onto the end of it with what they call the support bush securing wire, but I cant work out from the diagram whether the securing wire is hidden within the rack tube or maybe it has come off and the end has started to unscrew, but in that case I thought I would of found the clip in the rubber boot,
as you said I will try and get some answers from someone that re-con's them to see what they say, and see if I can find the receipt I think it is still under a year since I got it.
