oil cooler

is this true,a oil cooler should be mounted with the pipes facing downwards so the sludge does not collect in the bottom of the cooler or does it matter

No, it's true though that you won't get sludge if you use decent oil though, I always prefer the pipes uppermost, easier for trapped air to come out.
