escort gti help
im helping a friend out at the moment with his escort gti the problem is running a cold air feed pipe to airbox sticking to the standard air box with a k&n panel filter as the cone filter isnt his cup of tea, trouble is theres not much room to route it ideally id like run it to lower front grill with a alloy ram trumpet on outer grill but theres no space to feed a pipe in does anybody no if any body does a 90 degree cold feed air pipe to fit a standard airbox to keep it away from the top radiator hoses etc as thats the problem were having the heat) whether silcone or that silver flexable stuff(is that heat prove) or has anybody got a idea of best place to route it and how to keep heat away.....weve done a few mock ups with a pipe to just below lower front bumper and it really does free up the revs and a lot quicker acelaration by removing that air intake plastic top grill pipe, which to me seems way to small in the first place and just by a simple mod of a cold feed to the standard airbox without messing up the maf sensor etc

First myth to dispel is the ram air effect of a trumpet, you won't get anything useable at the speed that car can do, the engine will likely be breathing faster than any rammed air, so long as it is open to cold air it's fine to just route behind the bumper, I wouldn't worry about the amount of hot air it would be able to pick up from being close to a rad hose, you seriously would not feel a difference.

To be honest, the standard air intake and air box arrangement is perfectly suitable for the engine as it is, so I'd stick with it. You could do a lot of messing about and achieve nothing!
