HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!
car has started playing up again problem is it wont rev, just about running altough very rough as if only 3 cyl and one of the relays is clicking like mad, when the revs do rise so does the clicking anyone got any ideas
(edit to add) this seems to only be an intermittent problem as it runs fine then happens then either clears itself or goes ok when cooled down

clicking? kinda like metal pinging sounds of detonation?
Detonation occurs at high temperatures, so it could explain why the car "runs" fine when cold.
If you're tech savvy, I'd say take off the head and check for damage, see if the pistons have been banging against the valves or if the pistons seem damaged. If you're not tech savvy, I'd take the car to a skilled mechanic.
Detonation occurs when the heat and compression of the fuel when the piston is at top dead center, and has just started burning the fuel, the heat and compression make the fuel suddenly detonate, instead of burning normally. This sort of engine problem is usually caused by too much boost, too hot air, too high compression in the engine, and/or too low octane fuel.
A fuels octane rating is its resistance to detonation, which is why turbo cars, should always run high quality fuel. What kind of fuel have you been running (and please say the octane numbers, since I'm not familiar with the fuel brand names in the UK
)
Oh, and here is a sound rule-of-thumb I got from Maximum Boost, "If you hear pinging or knocking, step off the throttle NOW!" (Ok, I may have worded it differently, but in essence its the same).
Anyway, _NOTHING_ can withstand repeated detonation shockwaves, and this pinging/clicking sound you hear might be that.. An engine which is running at 3000 rpm, will be detonating 50 times per second!

oh sorry, I missed the part about the relay.. My heart sank at the thought of the poor engine being forced to run while detonating
... I remember a guy over at focusfanatics who was running a turbo kit with no tuning and stock compression, getting deto, snapping a rod, and shooting the piston half way through his head!
Anyway, don't know what a relay is (english isn't my native tongue, so I might know what it is, but not in english, if you describe its purpose I'll probably know what it is

Thats a strange one.Could it be the amal valve clicking like mad? or is it coming from the fuse box? Theres a sensor that goes into the intercooler an if you disconnect it it wont allow the car to rev.It could be dodgy?
coming from fusebox m8 (relays are in fusebox 3 or 4 pins in a plastic moulding
not fuses, need to lower fusebox to get at them if thats any help). cossie ian will check at weekend cheers m8 ps like your sig

relay that seems to be clicking is blue one in top of picture with black mark on it, also noticed today that amal valve was also clicking. amal valve clicks constantly, relay only clicks when engine is warm same time as problem starts.

should this be connected car doesn't run a dump valve

Hi again. When I had my small turbo chipped the amal valve clicked like mad so I took it to a garage and he disconnected it.There is a screw in sensor in the intercooler on the cold side and if you disconnect it your car will not rev over 3k I think it just cuts the boost out.I got a new one for Ł15.Hopes this helps.Im not sure if you mean your car doesnt idle correctly or if you meant when your traveling at speed so what ive said might be of no use.
It looks like the Waste gate on the turbo is not connected !!! This means that as soon as you come any where near boost the ecu is crapping itself , no bleed off to atmosphere !
Connect that wastegate quickly ,without it the turbo will deliver infinite boost , very exciting , very expensive , very quick , !

Hell I thought you had taken the pipe off yourself.Put a pipe on it and connect it to the amal valve.Your car maybe had a dumpvalve on at some point so it would have been disconnected. That should solve your probs
thats the dump valve without a pipe on it,has somebody blanked it off inside the housing to run one on the cold side? the amal only has 2 pipes on the esc cos,1 to airbox and one to comp housing/actuator,nick

I would check the operation of both coil packs they do wear out due to heat from the engine, they are located under the black plastic spark plug cover.

Also there are NO sensors in the intercooler AFAIK
