Default mot and emissions results

Hi folks

My car actually passed its mot today (third time lucky)

And I'm asking about the emissons results I got.

They were in the pass level but the car needs something to make them better and make the car feel/run right

The results were:

CO- Max 3.50% actual- 0.11%. Very low

HC- Max 1200ppm actual- 1156ppm. Very high and just in the limit

So what does the car need to help these out etc?

Thanks peeps

What kind of car is this? What kind of injection?
Do you also have the figures for CO2, O2 and the lambda number?

Sorry peeps

Its an RS converted MK4 Escort Cabriolet. 1989 "G" reg.

As for the rest of the results, that is it I'm afraid.

Apart from idle speed- pass and smoke level- pass! lol

That's all that's on the sheet

And yes it is de-catted

The reason it only just scraped through is because it is running so lean, leading to a lot of unburnt fuel in the exhaust, this is your PPM, it will be much higher if running too lean, as a rough guess I'd expect from yours nearer 2 % CO, and 100-300 ppm.

So what would it need doing to be able to get to your estimates?

It needs to be made richer, try turning the idle co screw, assume you have the std mfi, if which case insert a long 3mm allen key down the "tube" at the side of the air elbow on top of the fuel flap area, and turn, tbh this would be best done in a garage unless you have the means to measure it ?
You'll also find it drives vastly better as well.
