Altenator belt tension, please help

Default Altenator belt tension, please help

Have just changed my altenator started the car up and the belt snapped belt was no good anyway!

Think I had the belt to tight, how do I know how tight it should be??

hi do not lever alternator 2much,hold tension then apply a bit of pressure then tighten up ame the belt should in theary turn halfway around if u understand what i mean,if u do it 2tight it will wear ur belt and alternator bearings.if u require more info pm me.

Ive put it on so it has a little bit of play in the belt. Its not too tight.

Is it normal to have a little bit of a squek on start up with a new belt?

You want about 1/2" deflection under moderate thumb pressure, that's the general rule.
