Default Strange indicator problem with trailer

I just fitted a towbar to my 2008 1.8 TDCi Focus and I had a bit of a problem getting the electrics sorted but me and a mate spent a bit of time yesterday night on it and all seemed to be ok. I connected it up to my trailer last night and eventually got all the bits and bobs (indicators, brake, lights etc) working.

I was out with the trailer today and there is a problem with the indicators, let me explain. When you put an indicator on (left or right) you see the wee green arrow on the dash flash for a very brief moment and then nothing. If you switch off the indicator and then put it on straight away it goes on fine. If you leave it longer than about 20 or 30 seconds to switch it on after the quick flash it doesn't work and you have to switch it off and straight back on again.

Same for both sides and hazard lights.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Dave

Sounds to me like the flasher unit needs changing. I vaguely remember a car with this fault at work and that was the fault

Did you fit a bypass relay?

No, just wired it in direct to the wires on the nearside of the boot.

most modern cars require a bypass relay wired in for the trailer lights.

It came with one of those buzzer things that you're supposed to put on these days that go off when you put the indicator on. I didn't really want the racket so I didn't put that on but now I'm wondering if that has a bypass relay in it...

Have a look at this thread: https://passionford.com/forum/genera...ar-wiring.html

I've got the wee buzzer thing but no relay that is in the other picture in this thread. Do you think I need to get hold of one? I wonder if it might be built into the buzzer?
