have a y plate focus 1.4. the problem is when i start it the battery light goes out, then after around 30 secs the battery light comes back on and stays on. any one had this problem before? any info or help would be great.

These use a "Smart Charge" system meaning it's ECU controlled so may well be ECU related but check the 3 pin plug on the alternator first for broken wires as these are prone for getting broken.

alternator does this but as said check the wiring first not normally ecu

 

cheers guys, will check all the wires today. if no broken wires, just changs the alternator?

If not plug, could be alternator but it's worth testing otherwise you could have wasted expense on a new one.
