thermostat switch mk6 escort

which sensor in the thermostat housing controls the gauge in the clocks? top or bottom one! any help much appriciated as always!

Maybe look at wire colours and then in manual, following wires will lead to each bit they affect.

Not knowing your car can't say for certain however the temp gauge will only have one wire and is typically a small sender whilst I suspect the other is the CTS and will have two wires going to it.
