i got a gearbox from a escort for my fiesta, problem is i cant get 1,3,5

i have tried pushing the linkage on further but its not having it, there is nothing stopping it its just that bloody tight after a certain point.

ive tried tapping the knuckle part of the linkage but its still not happening

any idea?

ps these gearbox's are 100% compatable so its not a compatability issue.

 

Can you select all gears with the linkage not connected?

Are you sure that the box is compatable as some of the earlier cars had the gate in the gearlever and this was then changed to have a gate in the gearbox. If you have a lever with a gate and then a box with a gate it is a pita to align and get to work properley.

I would also be checking either the rods or cables to ensure that they are fitting correctly.

 

i get 2 4 and reverse no problem

1 3 and 5, the gearstick goes into the position but doesnt go far enough forward (so isnt pulling the bit on the gearbox far enough back), so when i bring the clutch up it give the whirring sound.

 

Is it cable or rod?
