Can anyone help? recently bought escort flight 1.6, but only getting 20mpg!.
been scanned, no codes
oil changed, sparkplugs ok
not sluggin, drives beautifully
no high idle, no blowing
gutted cos i will have to get rid if i can't suss it out, can;t afford to run it

As above, would also check the CO/emissions first, would give a clue, what sort of driving is it ?

Have you tried cleaning out the MAF sensor? When they get dirty the emissions can go all over the place.

You could also consider replacing the lambda probe.

i had a MK5 escort 1.4 which was doing 14mpg at its best when we stuck a probe up the exhaust and took it for a run it turned out that every time i came off the throttle she was dumping a shed load of fuel .... cleaned out the maf sencor which helped but ended jup replacing the throttle body which saw it rise back to a comfprtable 33mpg...

Cheers cleaned maf gonna put some redex through, the car was mot'd 3 weeks ago emissions were fine but hey ho gotta try.
