just had new eibach springs put on with koni shocks and the car feels very nasty to drive. its hard to explain but it mostly happens on uneven roads where it feels like one of the wheels of the car gets stuck at which point the steering trys turning itself to one side. It happens with both wheels but not at the same time. Like i said its very hard to explain but ive had this problem on most of my lowered cars but not as bad as this. If anyone knows what im talking about then please help!

ive only got standard rims my mates fiesta with cossie rims used to do it alot even on the slightest of uneven road but rs was fine until i put on the eibach springs. I had AVO springs on before but the ride was too hard for driving around town

yeah have had the tracking done but still there nothing seems to be lose as theirs no knocking or anything to indicate the springs have been put on wrong. might try running the springs in and see how it goes
Thank god i was starting to doubt myself over this one i am having exactly the same problem an cannt seem to find out what it is either i renewed just about everything aswell polly bushes, strut top mounts, bearings, control arms discs and pads an it feels shit like it wants to pull all over the road i have had my wheels balanced and have had trackin done by 2 different companys aswell

thanks gym-rst at least you saved me time and money on replacing the parts you mentioned. Just need to ask one thing i know it might sound wierd but are both you top struts tightened to the right torque setings and also check the top nuts of both shock absorbers in the engine bay have they both been tightened the same as on my rst i have more thread on one then the other if you know what im trying to say which may have something to do with it.

Normally if u lower a cars suspension u will get what they call 'Tram lineing' which the car feels like its on its own rails and will go where it wants when u go over a bump.
Every car i have had which ive lowered or changed the wheels on, ive experienced it. Problerly worse on MK4 escorts cause to be honest they int the newset cars around now!
Got used to mine now, so int dont bother me!

i know what you mean but mine has only been dropped 25mm an is still on standard rims. The steering goes light then heavy around corners feels like the whole suspension leg is away to snap away an trying to go in a straight line is a nightmare i am constanly corecting it and the steering wheel will not sit straight but tracking is spot on and wheels are balanced too i just know summit is not right down there but can i fcuk find out what it is

As soon as i lowered mine (30mm) and it was on standard rims, within 5 minutes of it being lowered i noticed it pulling all over the place.
I would try a rack though, could be that.

spoke to somebody at speedshack in west drayton and the guy told me most rsts are like that so ill live with it for a little while might try a quick rack from burton power even though i dont know what a quick rack is
its probably to do with bump steer and scrub circle's
bump steer= when a car is lowered the track rods are moved upwards, so when you go over a bump or uneaven road the track rod starts to pull the wheel in and efectively steers the wheel slightly=bump steer.
scrub circle= the scrub circle from what ive been told is an immaginary line on the front suspension.
viewed from the front of the car the line would run from the center of the top mount and goes through the center of the bottom ball joint and continues to run down where it SHOULD meet the center of the tyre.
when the car is lowered i think the wheels need to go out a tad to keep that line straight.
If you change the tyre size (circumfrance) you are also altering this scrub circle so be aware of this.
i recon to try and fit 5mm spacers behind your front wheels and see if that helps a tad.
if the car is lowered 30mm then in theory the steering rack should be raised 30mm which isnt possible in most cases.
try finding some track rod ends that can go on up side down, so the track rod is back to its standard horizontal position.

Now thats makin alot of sense to me mate it is exactly the feelin it get my plan of action is to replace the rack an bushes an if i still get no joy which i have a funny feelin i wont then am lookin into adjustable control arms nice one cheers
Mine did the exact same thing, its because the springs are lower and stiffer.I bet your car is fine on the motorway. As for a quick- rack,it wont solve the problem, and at any speed under 15mph you will need arms like Hulk Hogan to turn the steering wheel, crap for Tesco's car park, but good for Donnington.Regards Micky
na mate it gets worse on the motorways and when you brake hard at motorway speeds you need arms like hulk hogan to keep a hold of the steering wheel it shakes that much. The rack is the only thing left to replace so its getting done along with all the racks bushes and my car goes no where near supermarket car parks too many muppets or donnington for that matter cheers anyway
