Default MSD chip advice ?

I,m thinking about using an msd chip, its going to be a 380bhp chip(hopefully).
How accurate are the chips,ie,will it need much setting up afterwards on the rollers.I have spoken to them and given them all the specs ,low comps,t34 etc........My main worry is detonation, has anyone found that their car detonated after an msd chip was installed, without any adjustments afterwards,(assuming the engine was in order before hand).
they did say if any probs i could send the chip back to be altered. The car is a caterham 7 type car,so only weighs about 700kg.
any comments appreciated
Matt

The people who assembled my bottom end had a cossie there which had one of their generic chips, they didnt say much about it when i asked other than it was smooth and if anything a bit safe. I would recommend taking to them for a proper setup as you wont go far wrong, they have a faultless reputation.

i did want them to set it up,but they said the power to weight ratio was to much, and would not take the car out on the road

I can understand the apprehension, as it's entrusted to them they carry the can.
As said there are other people who can set these ecu's up.
A off the shelf chip can never really, unless by pure luck, be as good as a mapping session, that is tailored to your car only, msd will use thier experience of all things cossie to get you a ace chip, though thinking sensibly it would if anything have to err on the safety side.
