Default cosworth eng into a mk2 escort

Hi looking to put a cosworth engine into a mk2 escort rs 2 questions i need some help if yous can
1.is it easier to go 2wd than 4wd a would realy like 4wd but want to keep the stock body work but some ppl telling me i would need wide arches
2.if i have to go 2wd(which i dont mind) what is the most power i can get out of it without it all over the road as it going to be a track weapon and road car was hoping for 500bhp or over
