Ford Focus light steering all of a sudden.
Hi Folks,
I've been having a problem with my MK 1 zetec for the last couple of weeks and I hope that someone can help me out. I'll try to explain it as clearly as I can so here goes.
A couple of weeks back I was going around a tight corner in a car park in the snow. On my way around I lost control of the car for a second and slid into the kerb with my right front wheel. I couldn't have been going any faster that 5 or 6 miles an hour tops. At the last second I steered into the kerb and mounted the pavement slightly. Ever since then my steering has felt very light. On top of that I feel that I have to turn the wheel a lot more now to get the car to turn around. On full lock my turning circle is the same as before I'm 100% sure of it but to get to full lock I need to turn the wheel a lot more than I used to if that's possible. I don't think that I'm imagining that part of it but you never know, maybe it just feels that way because the steering is so light now.
I don't know anything technical about cars but I've had a look at and around the wheel and theres no obvious damage, my power steering fluid hasn't gone down so I'm sure that it's not been leaking. Could I have done some damage to the car in this minor accident that caused the steering to go so light? I don't really feel too safe driving it like this so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated before I take it into the garage to have them take a look at it.
Thanks in advance,
Ronnie
