Default Sierra Cosworth violent steering judder

Well seeing as I am sitting here with black bollocks after having the snip done today I am unable to investigate the problem with my car for a few days so the head scratching is over to you lot for now
This problem first arrose yonks ago with a wobble under braking.Changed the discs and pads bed them in also refurbed the calipers.
The problem was still there but not as bad I thought until if braking at speed whilst turning left a bit of a shudder.Anyhoo recently just turning the s/wheel at about 60mph it felt violent,on the way home the last time I used it I was down to 20mph.It feels like when the wheel has come loose. Its not that I have checked.Until I can jack it in the air I suppose I will not know the problem. All the bushes are poly on the car and the anti rollbar ones LOOK ok,I have done these plenty on other Sapps.I did think it may be tcas but now I am unsure. There has been no groaning from the wheel bearing but it feels that bad like the wheels is going to fall off
What would the symptoms of a knackered rack feel like ?
I am frustrated because atm I can not investigate, any input muchly appreciated
Just to say its now doing it in a straight line over 25-30 mph

Yes sounds like TCA inner bush(es) knack'd.
In the late 80's we were given the runaround with Sierra brake judder/steering shake, resolving it involved discs/pads, compliance bushes/hubs/wheel balance/TCAs sometimes the full Harry Hoot to sort it.

Thanks for the input,I suppose once the rack is disconnected I will see if there is play in it also.I still have this nagging suspicion about the wheel bearing because the problem got worse very quickly and there has been no knocking under normal use

Sounds like TCA, you need to raise the car to take weight off the wheel, then use a pry bar to try and generate movement, my money is on the outer ball joint.
Can sometimes make them clonk if you push the car from the side so the car moves over a touch, then listen for where the clonk is coming from.
Knew this on a xr2 track car(amongst others) owner scratching his(big fat bald) head, wouldn't listen, but then jacked car up used a pry bar and found it right away, mind you he and mate were out on track not so long ago with "odd" handling only to discover all wheelbolts on both car were loose!!

Cheers Tabetha,Yep will give it a try as soon as I am mobile enough
Funny thing is though I did have the pass side track rod end off when I changed the gaitor for the rack and as you do had a pull and a poke at everything else whilst I was there. This was in late summer though so ?? . .
I also thought that with it getting worse so quickly as one of the bushes hasnt just worn but broken, like I said its all poly bushed and I suppose they wont wear like rubber where you get the tell tale knocking
